When we see a shadow, we want to discover where it comes from. Especially when there shouldn’t be a shadow. Sometimes the origin of the shadow is not concrete, there are no bodies involved.
In her new performance No ser ni la sombra de lo que se fue. Chapter 5 (In other words: ‘Not even being a shadow of oneself’), choreographer Maria Jerez forgets the actual origin of the shadow in order to focus on the phenomenon as a source of movement. In this way, the image no longer needs to be hypervisible. Because we are never in a place from which we can oversee everything. There always remains a part in the shadow.
