EUROPALIA and Pelckmans Bring Art to the Classroom

EUROPALIA and Pelckmans join forces for a unique educational project that uses art as a bridge to culture and imagination. With EUROPALIA at School, teachers from 4th to 6th grade receive free, ready-to-use lesson materials to introduce children to Spanish art and culture in a playful way. The materials are available in both Dutch and French.

Stories that connect

The educational program is based on the conviction that education plays a key role in forming critical, culturally aware citizens. In a society where art connects and provides space for multiple voices, these lessons plant the seeds of intercultural understanding.
Each module begins with a captivating short story, told by a character from the artist’s world. Imagine: Nocturna, Goya’s elegant studio cat, takes children on a journey of discovery through the fascinating world of Spanish art. From there, students explore artworks, ideas and worlds in a playful manner.

The educational package consists of nine separate modules, each dedicated to a Spanish artist from a different domain or time period. Teachers choose how to use the material: several modules during an art week, a longer project trajectory over multiple weeks or even a school-wide EUROPALIA at School day where each class works on one module.

The accompanying interactive web tool guides teachers step by step through each module. All images, audio fragments, assignments and instructions are available plug-and-play, without extra preparation.

Perfectly aligned with the new curriculum

The project combines heritage and tradition with contemporary creation, translated to children’s living world. The lessons perfectly align with the learning objectives of the new curriculum: artistic education, science and technology, language, attitudes (citizenship) and more.

Culture for everyone

After more than 25 million festival visitors since 1969, EUROPALIA now also connects a new generation with Europe’s cultural story. By going directly to schools, culture becomes accessible to all children, in their own context.
