Creations and formats

New creations have always been given significant attention at the EUROPALIA festivals. In the early decades, this focus was primarily on the visual arts; for the past decade or so, it has also extended specifically to the performing arts, music, literature, and multidisciplinary projects. The festival has also developed its own recurring formats: the EUROPALIA CURATOR’S AWARD (2015, 2017, 2019), Rituales, and Pick-Up Club (both since 2023). In 2024, the art2gether project was launched: a springtime format held between two national festivals that takes place in public spaces, with the aim of reaching a diverse audience and engaging them around a social theme.
