The txalaparta is a traditional Basque percussion instrument, played by two people who take turns structuring and breaking the rhythm. Its subtle, powerful polyrhythm is associated with animistic traditions or ancient forms of communication between valleys. The rhythm has long accompanied work in the fields and is associated with cider production and the accompanying festivities. The txalaparta is also a cultural and political symbol, often associated with the Basque resistance. The duo Zuraburu from Pamplona-Iruña in the Basque Country explores all its possibilities, between tradition and innovation. They present concerts and workshops, following their residency with Jeunesses Musicales.
