Sugar Island

Sugar Island is a place. An island, a living organism, a dance. It is the broken-open ballet system, a strange connection of familiarity and mystery. Sugar Island is on the other side. Far away. Deep inside. Sugar Island is earth, muscles, ligaments, golden curtain, lights. It is classical, artificial, pop, strange. Cuqui Jerez, originally trained in classical dance, wants to expand the concepts of dance and choreography.

After Magical and Elastic at Kaaitheater (2022), Jerez returns to Belgium during EUROPALIA ESPAÑA for the world creation of Sugar Island at Théâtre Varia.
