The musical leitmotif of this full-length dance marathon is Folies d’Espagne, a 15th-century musical theme from Iberia, its heartbeat heard throughout classical music history in arrangements by composers like Bach, Vivaldi and Rachmaninov. Wouter Deltour adapts the compositions into a contemporary whole for the musical ensemble B’Rock. Director Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe asks six choreographers and six dancers, including well-known and young Spanish artists, to liberate the celebrating body in ‘chapters’. Baroque dance intersects with ballroom, jazz, and rave. In Chapters of Celebration, the political, ritual echoes of exuberance that humanity seems gradually to have lost resound anew.
