Gernika is the most personal and ambitious project to date by contemporary composer Aitor Etxebarria, composed for the 85th anniversary of the bombing of his hometown. Following its premiere at the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao by the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, and a special concert at the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid against the backdrop of Picasso’s Guernica painting, it will be performed during EUROPALIA ESPAÑA. Gernika is a symphonic work in four movements that alternates moments of deep silence with intense dynamics, eccentric aesthetics with minimalist landscapes. A perfect fusion of old and contemporary music.
