An initiative by AECID and the Spanish Embassy.
This installation takes the form of a collage of the multiple layers opened up and experienced during the sea voyage from Venice to Rotterdam, carried out on different types of vessels. Through projections and sound recordings, it explores both the non-human dimension—the seas crossed and their ecological challenges—and the human network that inhabits and traverses them: contemporary maritime transport, coastal communities, fishers, and the scientists who study these ecosystems.
With the participation of artists Fermín Jiménez Landa and Laura Palau Barreda, and scientist Laura Villanueva (NIOZ), this first chapter of Oceanographies invites viewers to think of the ocean as a shared and relational body.
The project is led by Oceanographies Collective with the support and collaboration of the Embassy of Spain in the Netherlands, the Embassy of Spain in Belgium, the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research), Grimaldi Lines, and TBA21–Academy.
